Pretty-In-Pastels

Hope everyone had a blessed and beautiful Easter Sunday!  Today’s fashion post takes inspiration from the soft and sweet candy hues of our most recent holiday – pastels!  We are already seeing pastels as one of the biggest trends this year, and with spring and summer (almost) here, it doesn’t look like it’s going to fade out anytime soon.

Pastels can be incorporated with almost any color.  The light, delicious hues range from blush pink, pale yellow, sweet sorbets, lavender to mint and seafoam green, to baby blue. They are indeed, very ladylike, however pastels can be worn by anyone, even if you don’t consider yourself to be a “girly-girl”.

Here are some wardrobe ensembles you can put together, whether you’re just beginning to add a touch of soft colors in your wardrobe or you’re a fashion diva experimenting with color blocking.

24K (Magic) Holiday Fashion

One of the holiday season’s biggest fashion trends include metallics.  An excuse to shine on like bedazzling Christmas lights without looking like an overdressed glitzy grandmama?  Sure, why not.

Glittery gold is a seasonal standout, and thanks to Bruno Mars‘ current hit, even more so that you’ll feel the “24 karat magic in the air” …

The Power of Honey

There is something about Honey.

No, not me, honey – honey. Like Honey, as in Honey Bee.

Honey is one of the most powerful food on the planet.

rawhoney_fotolia

Besides the fact that it has a shelf life of almost forever, Honey is proven to have a vast list of health benefits for the whole body.  It’s literally liquid gold. A sweet, golden fluid from beehives loaded with antibacterial and antifungal properties that when kept in its raw state, can be stored for centuries and still be edible. Honey contains hidden nutritional and medicinal value used for thousands of years, and can be traced back to Ancient Egyptians.

One tablespoon of honey = 64 Calories, 0% Fat

Here are some amazing health benefits of Honey:

1. Helps with Allergies: Aid in reducing allergy symptoms because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
2. Natural Energy Booster: Honey has high-carbohydrate load without the processed sugar. Honey’s natural sugars also prevent fatigue during exercise.
3. Cold Relief:  Soothes sore throat and is a natural cough suppressant.
4. Memory Booster: Honey helps the brain absorb calcium, helping to enhance memory and prevent cognitive decline and dementia.
5. Anti-Cancer: Studies show that honey possesses carcinogen-preventing and anti-tumour properties.
6.  Wounds and Burns:  A natural remedy containing antibacterial properties prevent infection and functions as an anti-inflammatory agent, reducing swelling and pain, and even scarring.
7. Skin & Beauty Must-Have:  Honey helps prevent acne, deep-clean pores, decrease wrinkle and fine lines and increase cell renewal.

Isn’t Honey just undeniably remarkable?!!  Sweet and powerful there is no denying it.

Victoria’s Secret Paris

Victoria’s Secret just launched their newest fragrance, Paris.  A limited edition and also the official fragrance of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Paris was inspired by The City of Light, which VS also deemed as “the world’s sexiest city”.

Victoria’s Secret describe the scent as “festive, crisp and sexy… captures the scent of Parisian gardens in wintertime.” Scent notes are composed of French cypress, night blooming jasmine and white cedarwood. The glamorous diamond-cut bottle seems to give a nod to the architectural style of the iconic Eiffel Tower.  The red ribbon add that touch of sexy as well as  holiday cheer to the season’s festivities.   The bottle is encased in a white and clear box with glitter and snowflakes, reflecting the sparkle of the city at night.

Paris Eau de Parfum is available in 50 ml/1.7 fl. oz. size.  The collection also includes a Fragrance Mist (250 ml/8.4 fl. oz.) and a Fragrance Lotion (250 ml/8.4 fl. oz.), which the latter you could get for FREE for a limited time.   In addition to the lotion, you can also get a FREE TOTE until Dec. 4th or while supplies last in store and online.

For those who know me well a have a slight obsession with Paris and anything Parisian. Remember my 25th Birthday Celebration?   I also love Victoria’s Secret and anything VS.  So of course there is no doubt that I had to absolutely get it.  I went to the newly opened VS at Kamakana Ali’i in Kapolei, used my $15 Angel Rewards Card and went home a very happy & fulfilled shopaholic-on-a-budget. 😉

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will air Monday Dec. 5, 10/9c on CBS

(Pick your) Pocket Tee

My beautiful, wonderful…. and very creative sister, Ersa Millon, started a fashion fad in her school by sewing DIY pockets on solid crew-neck shirts.  Initially this is her individual attempt to raise funds for a event she’s been desperately wanting to go since her freshman year in high school- a school trip to New York City!   The incredible response from her classmates and peers—amazing!

Pick your pocket, and there you have it!

I have no doubt that she will sell a lot of these pocket tees.  Which, is why my darlings, I am telling the whole world about it 😉

I heard it through the grapevine that there is a boutique in Cali picking up this PocketTee idea and want her to be involved in designing the line. I am so proud of my sissy.  Seventeen years old and already on her way to establishing her own signature line.

I fully support her 101%, therefore I would like to share with you all some of the pocket tees Ersa created.

They are on sale for $12 each.  Available in Adult Sizes S, M, L in black, gray and other various colors.

If you are interested in ordering, please email me, or visit Ersa’s Etsy.

Dance of the Pink Peplum Fairy & the Newly Crowned Queens

Woke up this morning and felt the after effect of running around in heels for almost 12 hours straight.  Both of my legs are cramping.  Nothing new, though, just another day in the world of pageants and fashion shows.

Wearing a pink peplum dress and 5-inch pumps, surrounded by beautiful little princesses, on-the-go all day and all night- I felt like a (worn-out) Sugar Plum Fairy welcoming everyone to the Kingdom of Sweets.

Of course, minus the wings and the fancy, graceful ballet choreography to Tchaikovsky’s classic celesta piece.  Not to mention, my newly painted nails were peeling AND makeup smeared by the end of the evening.

All the months and months of preparation comes down to this one night.  And in the end it always, always is a splendid feeling to see my girls onstage, so brave and so elegant.  Once the lights turn off, the music starts playing, and the first contestant take their first walk and the audience are at awe, we know that all of it was worth it.

It’s a Wrap! The Dress for All Seasons

Happy Friday the 13th darlings!

A very not-so unlucky shopping confession…

I went to Banana Republic at Waikele Outlet this past weekend “just to look”. The plan of “just looking” however, didn’t go too well since they were having a tremendous sale of up to 70% off regular prices.

After browsing for almost an hour and pinching myself to remind the shopaholic in me not to give in to her impulse buying, she left the store buying two dresses at a third of the price of one.  I’ll let you comprehend that for a moment 🙂

OK, seriously, I ended up buying two beautiful high quality dresses from Banana Republic for $27, which at retail price would have been three times that, per dress. They were on sale plus an additional 40% off. Yes, whatadeal it is.

One of the dresses I fell in love with- a wrap dress inspired by Diane von Furstenberg. Since I do not have the kind of budget to splurge on a DVF garment (which can run to several hundred $$), I was delighted to find a similar style to add to Honey’s Closet at 10 percent of the cost.

Why the wrap dress, you might ask.  Well…

Just like the LBD, the wrap dress is a classic and wardrobe basic all women should have.  Diane von Furstenberg first introduced the wrap dress in 1972 and has since become timeless fashion.  It is flattering and can be worn by women of all ages, in various occasions, at different times of the year. It is the dress for all seasons.

You can use the wrap dress for work and play, depending on shoes and accessories included in the ensemble. Pair it with a pair of stunning red heels, chandelier earrings and a clutch, and wala!- you’re ready for date night with Prince Charming. Dress it down with gladiator sandals, a crossbody bag, floppy hat and oversized sunglasses, and you are set for a cruise in the Mediterranean.

Some tips on choosing the perfect wrap dress:

*PETITES: Neutral wrap dress that ends mid-thigh to make your legs look longer.
*TALL, CURVY FIGURES: Fitted dress with shorter hem to emphasize curves and height.
*SLENDER/BOYISH: Bright colors, or dresses with small prints and deep V neckline to soften figure
*TOP HEAVY: 3/4 to long sleeve dresses for the appearance of slimmer arms. Bright colors and knee length hem emphasize hip and thighs.
*WIDE HIPS: Dress with A-line silhouette focus on waist and hides hips.

This wraps up another shopaholic confession + fashion lesson for ya 😉

Love,
Honey
