What’s New, Kittycat?

One of the most anticipated films of this year, the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy- The Dark Knight Rises stars Anne Hathaway in Hollywood’s most coveted role as Catwoman.

If I were DC villain or heroine (whichever you take her to be), I would definitely want to be Catwoman.

She is fierce, intriguing, hella sexy, and kicks ass. Have we not forgotten that on top that of she also has nine lives? Ohhh, and that catsuit…. I’d kill to wear that catsuit.

“So it’s such a pinch-me moment. And the fact that I am Catwoman in Chris Nolan’s Gotham to Christian Bale’s Batman is unbelievably cool. You know, she’s totally independent. And let’s face it, she’s badass.” – Anne Hathaway

My take on a fashion editorial inspired from the feline fatale herself…

Makeup is dark gray eyeshadow, with liquid liner and mascara, finished with a bright red lipstick.  Any ensemble with black leather will make you look meowgorgeous and reveal your inner super villain.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20th.

What will you be wearing?

Jet Set Chic- How To Travel In Style

Okay, okay….

I know what you are thinking… “Miss Honey, you should be fired for not posting any fashion-related topics, why do you even bother to call this blogosphere of yours ‘Honey’s Closet’?”

Sorry, sorry….

My life is currently is a huge transition right now (and when I say huge, I mean immense, massive, colossal…) Vast changes are undertaking, but let’s sit and talk about it over delicious mocha fraps another day.

Anywho, a couple days ago, the lover and I have confirmed a fantastic trip planned with the family in late September. An autumn trip in the west coast- SoCal and LV, here we come 😉

Upon receiving our flight confirmation, first thing that came to mind is, “What am I going to wear?” It’s a common question among fashionistas who wants to look fabulous but still feel comfortable sitting for hours until the plane reaches its final destination. Not to mention preflight- the wait for TSA, stopovers, and post flight- the long walk (and wait) to baggage claim followed by another ride in a taxi cab to the hotel. Ugh.

But not to worry, ladies. You can look glamorous even on the go!

Just like my previous post, Lazy Chic Fashion, the secret is to look effortless, but stylish.

Travel Wardrobe Essentials:

1. JEGGINGS-  The look and protection of jeans, at the comfort of leggings, jeggings are the perfect bottoms to wear mid-air. Come on, do you REALLY want to wear shorts on a chair a million of people have sat on?!
2. BOYFRIEND TEE-  Perfect for layering, a loose tee can be worn by itself or under a sweater or jacket (see #3)
3. CARDIGAN SWEATER-  The perfect medium between a thick heavy coat and a long sleeve tee, cardigans are warm enough for an overnight flight, and still easy to remove through security.
4. BOOTS-  Great for traveling, choose a pair that’s comfortable and have a full inside zipper for convenience at airport security.
5. SUNGLASSES–  While traveling, keep makeup to minimum, and conceal tired peepers with large sunglasses from check-in through boarding.
6. OVERSIZED SCARF–  A dresser upper accessory, your scarf can also act as your blanket, and hey, when folded enough, even a pillow!
7. CLASSIC DUFFEL–  Holds all your basics, while looking clean and polished. Don’t forget all types of identification- State ID, passport, driver’s license. Always have a backup just in case.

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”– Jawaharial Nehru

Bon Voyage!

Women + Stilettos

A saying goes, “Strong women wear their pain like stilettos. No matter how much it hurts, all you see is the beauty of it.”

Shoes are one of those things that never disappoint a woman.  Any woman can put on a pair of stilettos and amazingly we get the same results.  We feel sexier and more attractive, confident, glamorous and powerful.  We look taller, and slimmer.  We find our inner goddess, and we make men drool.

Beautiful? Yes.
Therapeutic? Yes.
Healthy? Hardly.

Besides the risks of looking weird while walking in uncomfortably mile-high shoes and losing balance, there are drastic damages that high heels can cause to our bone structure. Heels can lead to angle injuries, knees, and spine damages. It can also cause back pain since the pressure of wearing heels fall on our lower back.

Are the disadvantages of wearing high heels worth it? Absolutely!

Because I always believed that a great pair of shoes will take you to wonderful places.

Wearable Spring/Summer 2012 Trends

Living in a tropical paradise, I always looked forward to Fall Fashion trends (much more than Spring season) because they are generally styles that we can’t wear in Hawaii. Usually, spring trends are easier to put together, but they bore me. During the fall, I always love the challenge of successfully pulling off outfits that may trigger confused looks from the uncles and the “tutus” here. Thigh high boots, faux fur, leather jackets, trench coats, etc… only in the end to be complimented and admired for being fashion forward. A sharply said, (but sweet) comment “Eh, I like your outfit,” brings music to my ears.

Anywho, fashionably speaking for the first time ever, I am actually looking forward to this upcoming Spring/Summer 2012. Styles this coming season have a bold and fun, yet feminine feel and still oh-so-wearable for our weather and environment here in Hawaii Nei.

Browsing through these trends felt like I traveled through time and took a trip around the world all at once, with inspirations coming from so many different things, places, people and ideas.

Emerging trends on the runways include flapper inspired fashion, focusing on drop waist silhouettes and sequins from designers such as Gucci and Marc Jacobs; athletic influences with sophisticated cuts from the collections of Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander Wang, and Victoria Beckham; 1950s & 1960s ladylike fashion continue to grace the runways but with more intricate details such as lace from Dolce and Gabbana, Valentino and Nina Ricci. Interestingly enough, bird prints are also popular this season from Carolina Hererra, Kenzo and Jill Stuart.

Here are some of my personal favorites in addition to the trends listed above— styles that I know for sure I will be trying in the next few months.

PASTEL SEPARATES- sorbet color palette in various ensembles

NEON & GEOMETRIC- brighter, bolder hues and geometrical shapes

PEPLUMS- sassy and classy, this 1980’s style is back

TRANSLUCENT WHITES- a warm-weather staple, with a more structured silhouette

SUMMER SUIT- blazer jackets dressed  and dressed down with city shorts

OUT OF AFRICA- tribal prints and stripes

TANGERINE- one of the primary colors of the season.

FLOWER POWER- April showers bring May flowers 😉

DIGITAL AGE- The use of digital photographs on garments

What’s your favorite so far?
