Galentine’s Day Celebration Ideas

Galentine’s Day is just a few weeks away.  (Yes, you read right, and No, it is not a typo.)

For fans of the show Parks and Rec starring Amy Phoeler as Leslie Knope, you are probably no stranger to the non-official holiday, Galentine’s Day.  What is it exactly?

“It’s only the best day of the year!”

Galentine's Day

Galentine’s Day is a celebration of friendship.

There’s so many ways to celebrate!  Brunch with waffles, lots of waffles! Dress up and look fab, RSVP at a fancy restaurant  or go hiking, have a mani-pedi with your gal friends.  Go to the beach, have a picnic, lie around in your jammies reading a book or watch a movie with face masks on… do ANYTHING you want.  Exchange gifts, or not… but if you’re planning to, here’s some cute ideas to gift to your favorite gals…

Crowning Glory- Little Princesses

Susan Page Modeling will be holding its fourth annual Little Miss Hawaii Princess and Junior Miss Hawaii Princess, and very first annual Tiny Miss Hawaii Princess Pageants on Saturday, September 1st 2012 at Leeward Community College.  There are 27 beautiful little princesses vying for the titles in three different age divisions, ages 4 to 9 years old.

Tiny Miss, Little Miss, and Junior Miss Hawaii Princess Contestants 2013

Pageants are remarkable experiences for little girls, and this is not the dreadful “tots and tiaras” pageants that you imagine them to be.  The girls learn confidence, poise, and grace. They are taught to be polite, to follow directions, to befriend and respect each other, just like how princesses should be.

The finalists have gone through a fun training workshop with Pageant Instructor and Director, one of the most amazing people I know, Ms. Shawn Torres-Akiyama.  They also had their professional pageant photos taken by one of Hawaii’s top fashion photographer, Adam Jung. Photographer Damien Bujecker will be in attendance to capture the pageant event on September 1st. This group is by far, my favorite group of little princesses I have had the opportunity to work with.

The finalists will be judged in 3 major categories- Fashion Modeling, Hawaiiana Beauty, Evening Gown, and an additional Overall Personality category.  Other Awards include Miss Congeniality, Most Photogenic, Miss Supermodel, Miss Fashionista, Miss Hawaiiana Beauty, Miss Popularity and People’s Choice Award.  The judging panel includes five professionals in Hawaii’s medical, fashion, beauty, art and pageant industries. The show will be emceed by the beautiful Miss Amber Stone.

Breathtaking performances by current titleholders of Susan Page Modeling’s sister pageants will also be featured- Shayna Raymond (Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen Princess 2012), Shardenei Luning (Miss Hawaii Preteen Princess 2012) and Jackie Taylor (Miss Hawaii Teen Beauty 2012). Taylor Kiehm, a promising young talent will also grace us with her captivating jazz and hula numbers.  Last year’s Queens, Brielle Sadorra, Junior Miss Hawaii Princess 2012 and Patricia Morta, Little Miss Hawaii Princess 2012 will be passing their titles to the 2013 winners.

This pageant have the largest group and the most beautiful princesses. Its definitely not one to miss!

Tickets are at $25.00 per person Pre-sale price, and $30.00 at the door. Visit www.susanpagemodeling.com or call (808) 955-2271 to order tickets.

Superman – The Man of Steel

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s Superman!

The Man of Steel. (gasps)

Seeing the movie preview before The Dark Knight Rises gave me goosebumps all over, I am absolutely looking forward to seeing this next summer.

Directed by Zach Snyder, the much anticipated The Man of Steel stars the stunning black-haired, blue-eyed Henry Cavill as Clark Kent.

There was a little glint of hope in us Smallvilleholics that Tom Welling would have snatched this role, but there is an undeniable magnetism in Cavill that oozes Clark Kent’s charm and Superman’s vigor.  Twenty nine years old, standing at 6’1”, Cavill appeared in films such as I Capture the Castle, Tristan and Isolde, and The Immortals, as well as the popular Showtime series The Tudors.  Interestingly, Stephanie Meyer (author of the Twilight series) strongly wanted Cavill to play Edward Cullen (too old to play the role), and was also considered as the next James Bond (Daniel Craig got the part).  The universe had other plans for ya, Henry.   You are the perfect Clark Kent, and you can pull of his glasses pretty damn well.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the new Superman.

Notice anything with the costume? Revamped and a little “alienistic”. New chain-like texture, similar to Spiderman’s costume, which gives it a more serious tone. Also, for the first time ever, no red briefs. Someone finally got the message that no one (not even a superhero) in their right fashion state of minds would wear their underwear outside of their pants.

Speaking of, what does one wear to a movie premier of Superman? Kelsie and I joked about wearing superman t-shirts to the theaters to proclaim our love to Clark Kent, but I thought a Superman-inspired outfit would do. Considering it will be in the summer, a light ensemble of shorts and t-shirt, or a light maxi dress with flip flops.

The Man of Steel premiers June 14, 2013. The all-star ensemble also include Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Russel Crowe (Jor-El), and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane (Mr. & Mrs. Kent).

What’s New, Kittycat?

One of the most anticipated films of this year, the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy- The Dark Knight Rises stars Anne Hathaway in Hollywood’s most coveted role as Catwoman.

If I were DC villain or heroine (whichever you take her to be), I would definitely want to be Catwoman.

She is fierce, intriguing, hella sexy, and kicks ass. Have we not forgotten that on top that of she also has nine lives? Ohhh, and that catsuit…. I’d kill to wear that catsuit.

“So it’s such a pinch-me moment. And the fact that I am Catwoman in Chris Nolan’s Gotham to Christian Bale’s Batman is unbelievably cool. You know, she’s totally independent. And let’s face it, she’s badass.” – Anne Hathaway

My take on a fashion editorial inspired from the feline fatale herself…

Makeup is dark gray eyeshadow, with liquid liner and mascara, finished with a bright red lipstick.  Any ensemble with black leather will make you look meowgorgeous and reveal your inner super villain.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20th.

What will you be wearing?

Miss Hawaii Princess Pageants 2012

And Miss Honey is a busy bee, again and again….

Susan Page Modeling will be producing the 4th Annual Miss Hawaii Princess on Saturday, May 26th at the Leeward Community College Theater. Just like the Ms. Armed Forces Hawaii Pageant this past March, the pageant will also be under the direction of one of my favorite people in the world, Ms. Marybeth Jenkins… as well as yours truly, which explains the buzzing honey bee.

There are three age divisions:
Miss Hawaii Preteen Princess 2012 (ages 9-11 years old, 12 delegates)
Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen Princess 2012 (ages 12-14 years old, 7 delegates)
Miss Hawaii Teen Princess 2012 (ages 15-18 years old, 6 delegates)

A total of twenty five delegates will be judged in Fitnesswear/Swimwear, Talent/Spokesmodel, Evening Gown and Interview phases of competition. Three of these beautiful young women will be crowned the queen in their respected age groups. The very impressive panel of judges includes an international hula dancer, an actor and fashion magnate, a stylist, author, and model/actress.

Performances during the pageant include Pas Des Deux Hawaii (Owned and Directed by Disney Imagineer’s Wendy Gilbert), the current Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen Beauty 2012 Sheera Tamura, the newly crowned Ms. Armed Forces Hawaii 2012 Jennifer Glass, and the reigning Miss Hawaii Princesses themselves- Miss Hawaii Preteen Princess 2011 Tamlyn Sasaki, Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen Princess 2011 Atheena Arasoo, and Miss Hawaii Teen Princess 2011 Gwendolyn Kenwright.  The current Princesses will also be delivering their farewell speeches before they crown their successors.

Former titleholders will be making a special appearance at the pageant- the beautiful Jasmine Graffis, the first Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen Princess 2009, and her successor, the alluring Elisabeth Levine, Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen Princess 2010.  I have been blessed with the opportunity to take these two beautiful young women under my wings, and I am SO very proud of what they have accomplished.

In the middle of all the stress, and the hard work put into producing and directing a pageant, every speck of energy into making this event successful is worth it.  The second we see the girls onstage, and feel the excitement of the parents, friends, and family members supporting the contestants, we forget it all.  We forget the madness…the infuriating little details and silly hoops we had to jump through to put this thing together.  The contestants just shine onstage!

That is why I love pageants.  Pageants are positive, life changing experiences for young women.  It’s empowering to know that beauty is not skin deep, that you can wear a dress and a crown…and still make a difference…even if you’re wearing 5 inch heels.

Tickets are $25 Pre-Sale Price per person, children 4 years and under are free.

Hope to see you there!
