Love, Honey

a story of stardust, sparkles, and all things pretty

From Manuscript to Main Character

Ten years, 84,000 words, and one very unexpected author era.

I’ve been staring at my book listing online for an unreasonable amount of time.

Not because there’s anything wrong with it. Quite the opposite, actually.

My Husband Is a Supernerd is officially available for preorder.

Ahhhhhhh!!!!! (that’s me screaming in my high-pitched ear-piercing, tone-deaf, deafening voice hahaha)

Sorry. I thought I would be much calmer about this by now haha!

I’ve spent months talking about manuscripts, editors, cover designs, ISBNs, and publishing platforms, but apparently none of that prepared me for the moment I could search for my own book in the largest book retailer in the world.

With my name on it. HONEY AUBREY.

Okay, I’m going to need a minute.

If you’ve been following this little publishing adventure, you probably know that My Husband Is a Supernerd has been living in my head for ten years. It started with an idea, a few scattered scenes, and a desire to write the kind of story I wanted to read but hadn’t quite found yet.

And then life happened, as it tends to do. I got busy with work, traveled, started other projects, and occasionally remembered that I had an entire fictional world waiting for me to finish what I started.

For years, I told myself I’d get around to it.

Then my 40th birthday started getting a little too close for comfort, and I realized I was running out of excuses.

So I sat down and wrote. And wrote. And wrote some more.

Somewhere along the way, those scattered scenes became an 84,000+-word novel. I fell in love with my characters, got ridiculously attached to their little world, visited Japan more times that I can count to live their moments and “do research”, and then had the audacity to get emotional when I finished the story as if I wasn’t the one who wrote it. Honestly, so me.

But finishing the manuscript was only the beginning of an entirely different adventure.

I hired a professional copyeditor, Jessica, who helped me see my writing with fresh eyes. Then came the revisions, which took considerably longer than I expected because apparently I am very capable of overthinking a single sentence for twenty minutes.

Alayna came aboard for proofreading- a first and second pass, and Ken, an award winning book designer, took on the cover and interior design. Suddenly, the story I’d been writing in Word was starting to look like something you might actually pick up in a bookstore.

And can we talk about how much there is to learn about publishing??!!!

Because I genuinely thought writing the novel would be the hard part.

Fooled me.

ISBNs. Trim sizes. Paper colors. Cover finishes. Distribution. Retail discounts. Metadata. Uploading files. Uploading corrected files. Wondering whether I had uploaded the correct corrected files.

At one point I was comparing wholesale discounts and calculating royalties like I was preparing to pitch my novel on Netflix. All for a book about a woman who discovers her husband is considerably more interesting than she originally thought.

But I loved watching it come together. Every correction, every design decision, every little detail made the whole thing feel more real.

And now here we are.

The paperback and NOOK editions are listed on Barnes & Noble, the paperback has been approved for distribution through IngramSpark, and the Kindle edition has been submitted to Amazon.

The official publication date is December 27, 2026, which also happens to be my 40th birthday.

Yes, I did that on purpose. I wanted to give myself something meaningful for this milestone. Something I could look back on and say, Remember when you finally stopped talking about writing that novel and actually did it?

I think about the version of me who first imagined this story ten years ago. She had no idea how much life would happen between that first idea and this moment. She certainly didn’t know she’d eventually be sitting here, just weeks away from turning forty, looking at her debut novel available for preorder.

I wish I could tell her she finishes it.

Actually, knowing me, she’d probably ask what took so long.

Fair question, young Honey.

I’ve been fortunate to have wonderful people help me bring this book to life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the encouragement I’ve received since announcing it. Every message, every excited comment, every person who’s asked when they can get a copy—it has meant more than I can properly explain.

For something that spent so many years existing quietly in my imagination, having other people excited to read it is a feeling I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

And now comes the slightly terrifying part.

People are actually going to read it.

STRANGERS.

People who don’t know me and therefore aren’t socially obligated to tell me they love it.

But that’s part of the adventure, isn’t it?

I wrote a story I wanted to read. I gave it everything I could, surrounded myself with talented people who helped make it better, and now it’s time to let it find its readers.

I hope people fall in love with Isla and Luke. I hope they laugh, get swept up in the adventure, and maybe find something familiar in a story about marriage, surprises, and discovering that there’s always more to the person you love.

Mostly, I’m just grateful I finally did this.

So, here we are. My first novel. My 40th birthday around the corner. A decade-old dream with an actual publication date.

And a woman who keeps refreshing her book listing just to make sure it’s still there. It is, by the way. I checked…again

My Husband Is a Supernerd is coming December 27, 2026.

And I cannot wait for you to meet Isla and Luke.

Love,

Honey
