Pretty-In-Pastels

Hope everyone had a blessed and beautiful Easter Sunday!  Today’s fashion post takes inspiration from the soft and sweet candy hues of our most recent holiday – pastels!  We are already seeing pastels as one of the biggest trends this year, and with spring and summer (almost) here, it doesn’t look like it’s going to fade out anytime soon.

Pastels can be incorporated with almost any color.  The light, delicious hues range from blush pink, pale yellow, sweet sorbets, lavender to mint and seafoam green, to baby blue. They are indeed, very ladylike, however pastels can be worn by anyone, even if you don’t consider yourself to be a “girly-girl”.

Here are some wardrobe ensembles you can put together, whether you’re just beginning to add a touch of soft colors in your wardrobe or you’re a fashion diva experimenting with color blocking.

Date Night LBD

Oh, the classic, timeless LITTLE BLACK DRESS.

It is a wardrobe essential that is elegant, sexy, and versatile all at the same time.  I love wearing it.  I also love the color black, which makes it even more than a necessity to have in my closet.  I have a ton of lbd’s, but of course, I am always on the lookout for more.

A dress I am currently in love with is a fit and flare plunge dress from Daily Look.  The A-line silhouette compliment both a curvy and curve-less figure. The empire waistline and plunge neckline accentuate the busts for those who, like me, needs the most. 😉  The mini-dress style elongate the legs.  With the perfect stilettos and accessories, this seductive LBD will make you feel like all eyes are on you.

For your next Date Night (or ladies night out) pair your LBD with heels and a clutch in Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala.

Enjoy your date night ladies, I am sure you will look lovely!

Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny….Bikini Season

The stormy weather last week was a sign that Hawaii nei was still in Winter Season, but it’s all done and over now (I hope) which, means………….

It’s officially SPRING!!! Woooohooo! Which means it’s BIKINI SEASON!!!!

Okay, okay…I know with Hawaii’s usually sunny skies and ideal paradise climate you can pretty much wear a bikini any day of the year, but I just like the pleasure of thinking we can have Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter here too 😉
Anyway, here are some guidelines to finding the sexiest swimsuit for your body type.

STRAIGHT, ATHLETIC BUILD
*Choose padded tops to add cleavage or pieces with intricate detailing to add interest on your not-so-interesting bosoms.
*Styles such as ring-top bandeaus, ruffled trim swimsuits, and tops with wider neck straps will give you a va-vavoom effect!

Swimsuit-AthleticStraightBody

TOP-HEAVY, “APPLE” SHAPED BUILD
*Opt for more structured suits to keep your girls in place 😉 you don’t want them too free that you set yourself up for a wardrobe malfunction. Tops with underwire support are your best choice.
*Halter tops are a better selection than triangular or bandeau tops, which tend to smash your boobies together- skimpy AND unflattering.
*Think prints! Patterns keep the eyes busy and are slimming than solid-colored ensembles.
*If you prefer solid colors, go for one-piece swimsuits with details on the midsection area, such as rouching, or gathering of fabric or even an embellishment to create a slimming and flattering division between the chest and hips

Swimsuit-AppleShaped

BOTTOM-HEAVY, “PEAR” SHAPED BUILD
*Stay away from boy-shorts style bikini bottoms, which cut thighs off in all the wrong places. Select higher-cut bottoms to give legs thinner and longer appearance. String bikinis are a must!
*Tankini is your best friend- great for concealing a heavy mid-section.
*Draw attention on your upper body by wearing bright or printed bikini tops, and darker bikini bottoms.
*A deep V-neck also shows off your sexy upper body
*Go nautical and pair a striped top with a solid bikini bottom- eyes will directly notice the striped pattern and forgets your bottom-heavy silhouette

Swimsuit-PearShaped

CURVY, HOURGLASS FIGURE
*Most styles will match an hour-glass figure, the main thing to remember is choose styles that won’t knock your figure out of proportion!
*Remember, simplicity’s best!
*Wear bikini tops with underwire support and stay away from padded styles as they will create a heavier upper body
*Avoid bottoms with side ties or chunky waistband as it will draw attention to your hips, widening your bottom
*Don’t wear bottoms with heavy print design or horizontal stripes, as it will create a bottom-heavy figure. Narrow stripes should be okay.

So my next dilemma is getting this beachin’ body back, because I have been, as you know my darlings…slackin in my fitness 😦

I am hoping within the next six weeks to fit into this bikini from VS:

Walk the Line- Stripes Fashion

Stripes—-one of the biggest trends this spring!

A classical, timeless, fun and edgy piece, stripes make another comeback this season.  Only bigger, bolder…even more colorful, and versatile.

From classic mod stripes (Michael Kors), to whimsical nautical stripes (Vivienne Westwood), Bohemian stripes (Dolce and Gabbana), chevron stripes (Jonathan Saunders), Warholian stripes (Marc Jacobs)… even elegantly-striped gowns (Oscar de la Renta)!

StripesFashion_Spring2013

Some tips on how to wear stripes:

*Choose pieces that accentuate your waist.
*Don’t let stripes overwhelm your figure.
*For petites, vertically striped pants or skirts can make you look taller when worn with a solid-colored top.
*For dresses, avoid horizontal stripes that widen your shape.
*If you have a boyish figure horizontal stripes will give the illusion of curves. This helps enhance your proportion with distortion.

*Darker colors are more slimming than lighter ones.

My darling good friend Jena will be celebrating her 28th birthday this Saturday, and this fellow fashionista’s theme is stripes! Still contemplating on what type of outfit to put together. A few ideas below:

Dance of the Pink Peplum Fairy & the Newly Crowned Queens

Woke up this morning and felt the after effect of running around in heels for almost 12 hours straight.  Both of my legs are cramping.  Nothing new, though, just another day in the world of pageants and fashion shows.

Wearing a pink peplum dress and 5-inch pumps, surrounded by beautiful little princesses, on-the-go all day and all night- I felt like a (worn-out) Sugar Plum Fairy welcoming everyone to the Kingdom of Sweets.

Of course, minus the wings and the fancy, graceful ballet choreography to Tchaikovsky’s classic celesta piece.  Not to mention, my newly painted nails were peeling AND makeup smeared by the end of the evening.

All the months and months of preparation comes down to this one night.  And in the end it always, always is a splendid feeling to see my girls onstage, so brave and so elegant.  Once the lights turn off, the music starts playing, and the first contestant take their first walk and the audience are at awe, we know that all of it was worth it.

Our judges, Lorena Takushi, Valerie Schmidt, Junior Mandrial, Joel Gaspar and Liz Kiehm thank you so very much for making the difficult decision for us.  To my pageant queens who performed and made a special appearance,  Shayna Raymond, Jackie Taylor, Brielle Sadorra, and Patricia Morta, thank you- stay beautiful and keep up being a good role model to your peers.

Superman – The Man of Steel

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s Superman!

The Man of Steel. (gasps)

Seeing the movie preview before The Dark Knight Rises gave me goosebumps all over, I am absolutely looking forward to seeing this next summer.

Directed by Zach Snyder, the much anticipated The Man of Steel stars the stunning black-haired, blue-eyed Henry Cavill as Clark Kent.

There was a little glint of hope in us Smallvilleholics that Tom Welling would have snatched this role, but there is an undeniable magnetism in Cavill that oozes Clark Kent’s charm and Superman’s vigor.  Twenty nine years old, standing at 6’1”, Cavill appeared in films such as I Capture the Castle, Tristan and Isolde, and The Immortals, as well as the popular Showtime series The Tudors.  Interestingly, Stephanie Meyer (author of the Twilight series) strongly wanted Cavill to play Edward Cullen (too old to play the role), and was also considered as the next James Bond (Daniel Craig got the part).  The universe had other plans for ya, Henry.   You are the perfect Clark Kent, and you can pull of his glasses pretty damn well.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the new Superman.

Notice anything with the costume? Revamped and a little “alienistic”. New chain-like texture, similar to Spiderman’s costume, which gives it a more serious tone. Also, for the first time ever, no red briefs. Someone finally got the message that no one (not even a superhero) in their right fashion state of minds would wear their underwear outside of their pants.

Speaking of, what does one wear to a movie premier of Superman? Kelsie and I joked about wearing superman t-shirts to the theaters to proclaim our love to Clark Kent, but I thought a Superman-inspired outfit would do. Considering it will be in the summer, a light ensemble of shorts and t-shirt, or a light maxi dress with flip flops.

The Man of Steel premiers June 14, 2013. The all-star ensemble also include Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Russel Crowe (Jor-El), and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane (Mr. & Mrs. Kent).

It’s a Wrap! The Dress for All Seasons

Happy Friday the 13th darlings!

A very not-so unlucky shopping confession…

I went to Banana Republic at Waikele Outlet this past weekend “just to look”. The plan of “just looking” however, didn’t go too well since they were having a tremendous sale of up to 70% off regular prices.

After browsing for almost an hour and pinching myself to remind the shopaholic in me not to give in to her impulse buying, she left the store buying two dresses at a third of the price of one.  I’ll let you comprehend that for a moment 🙂

OK, seriously, I ended up buying two beautiful high quality dresses from Banana Republic for $27, which at retail price would have been three times that, per dress. They were on sale plus an additional 40% off. Yes, whatadeal it is.

One of the dresses I fell in love with- a wrap dress inspired by Diane von Furstenberg. Since I do not have the kind of budget to splurge on a DVF garment (which can run to several hundred $$), I was delighted to find a similar style to add to Honey’s Closet at 10 percent of the cost.

Why the wrap dress, you might ask.  Well…

Just like the LBD, the wrap dress is a classic and wardrobe basic all women should have.  Diane von Furstenberg first introduced the wrap dress in 1972 and has since become timeless fashion.  It is flattering and can be worn by women of all ages, in various occasions, at different times of the year. It is the dress for all seasons.

You can use the wrap dress for work and play, depending on shoes and accessories included in the ensemble. Pair it with a pair of stunning red heels, chandelier earrings and a clutch, and wala!- you’re ready for date night with Prince Charming. Dress it down with gladiator sandals, a crossbody bag, floppy hat and oversized sunglasses, and you are set for a cruise in the Mediterranean.

Some tips on choosing the perfect wrap dress:

*PETITES: Neutral wrap dress that ends mid-thigh to make your legs look longer.
*TALL, CURVY FIGURES: Fitted dress with shorter hem to emphasize curves and height.
*SLENDER/BOYISH: Bright colors, or dresses with small prints and deep V neckline to soften figure
*TOP HEAVY: 3/4 to long sleeve dresses for the appearance of slimmer arms. Bright colors and knee length hem emphasize hip and thighs.
*WIDE HIPS: Dress with A-line silhouette focus on waist and hides hips.

This wraps up another shopaholic confession + fashion lesson for ya 😉

Honey
