Another Wedding Expo in Paradise – Lanikuhonua Event and Wedding EXPO 2015

While we are on the topic of bridal shows, another event that Brons and I are attending is the Lanikohunua Event and Wedding Expo 2015, located in beautiful Ko’Olina.  In Hawaiian, Lanikohunua means “Where Heaven Meets the Earth”.   So perfect!

An outdoor wedding expo in paradise with food, drinks and entertainment, featuring Hawaii wedding vendors.

Event is tomorrow, Saturday, October 17th, 5pm – 8:30pm.
Tickets are $12 per adult ($10  for children 6-12) and $15 at the door.

More details about the event on their website.

You can purchase tickets online at TIX.com.

So excited to attend this because it seems to be more intimate and the atmosphere so lush and romantic! I think I’m making this date night for us, my love. 🙂

The Cloning of X-23

This past weekend we attended the much anticipated Amazing Hawaii Comic Con. There were a lot of blunders and disorganization expected from a “first-time” event being held here in Hawaii, but I won’t get into that. It was a fun experience overall, and I will do it again next year, although we probably won’t invest in their so-called “VIP Package”, because it did nothing for us. Again, I will not go over that.

This post is about the making, or cloning should I say, of the character that I chose to dress up as, the superhuman, supersexy assassin X23.

X23_Cosplay_HoneyAubrey

Close enough, I guess.   This is my version, as this is the most undressed I will ever get in public.  I wore a pair of high-waisted (versus X23’s low-waist style) vegan leather leggings from Daily Look.  I paired it with a lace bralette from Victoria’s Secret, as I wanted to add a touch of femininity to it.  Lace & leather ;).  The combat boots were bought last minute our nearest Target, the belt buckle accents gave the outfit a she-is-going-to-squash-you look.  Yup, she’s wearing lace, but X23 means business.  The black “choker” was actually bra straps I took from one of my VS multi-way bras.  It proved itself to be very multiway, alright.  Hook and adjust was all it took.   The gloves were from six Halloweens ago when I dressed up as glamour Barbie.  I remember it went well with the hot pink party dress and blonde wig, and mile-high heels.  Thanks, Barbie.  The belt was not really a belt, but a removable strap from a weekender bag I got from VS a very long time ago.  Last but not least, her claws….Just like her backstory, X23’s claws came from Wolverine as well.  Scored an official Wolverine Claw toy from Amazon.  Made of styrofoam, it was very easy to just chop that middle claw, since X23 only has two claws per hand, not three.   I was missing her pendant and the X logo for the belt.  Regardless cosplayers and attendees recognized who she was.

Surprisingly, X23 was noticed more that I thought she would have.  There were so many photo opps requested from all ages, there were even little girls who swears she is their favorite character.

The best comment ever was, “You look so cool.  You are like a Disney Princess that kills people!.”

Absolutely loved it!!!

This is my favorite candid with one of her fans…  (Thank you Natalie Millon & PhotoLuxe for your pictures!)

X23_AmazingHawaiiComicCon_HoneyAubrey

As X23 I also had the opportunity to meet a talented and amazing local artist, Lynne Yoshii, who did such a commendable thing that I admired so much.  I became a fan in an instant!  X23 has not reached the same success in pop culture or in the theaters as other X-Men women characters like Rogue, Storm, Mystique or Jean Gray (just to name a few).  Her following consists of die hard fans or readers of the X-Men / Wolverine series, so I was not expecting a lot of commercial products at the con featuring X23 that I could purchase as a memorabilia.  I searched anyway.  When I was about to give up, I came across Lynne’s booth and browsed through her portfolio.  Then a few pages in,  I saw a stunning sketch of X23.   I immediately wanted to purchase it, only to be told that she was sold out and that was not for sale because she needed it for her portfolio.  I was so sad since this was the only X23 that I saw throughout the whole weekend.  Lynne then offers to give me a “misprint” version of the artprint because they had some issues with the printer on the upper part of the page.  Totally not noticeable at all.  She did not want my money.  I accepted the “misprint” with a gigantic smile on my face.  I was sooo enamored with the artprint, Lynne’s quality of work, and her quality of customer service.  I will never forget what you did for me Lynne.  You created a raving fan, who will always share this story.  I will treasure your artwork forever.

Frolic Hawaii also posted our group photo in front of the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con Red Carpet, featuring X23, Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan (Bronson), Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul (Marlon) and Kikyo from Inuyasha (Kelsie).

Hawaii Comic Con Dilemma: Who Will I be?

The Amazing Hawaii Comic Con is happening in just a little over two weeks.

Still didn’t decide on who I will be dressing up as.

First, it was Wonder Woman.  Because, well, who wouldn’t want to be Wonder Woman?

Then, we binge-watched Arrow, and I decided I wanted to be Nyssa Al Ghul because she is such a bad-ass.  But her costume is too complicated.

Then I thought, hey Catwoman is bad-ass too, why not Catwoman?  I did write a whole blog post about how in another realm and time I would love to be her.  But the catsuit thing, nuh-uhh.  Hawaii has been extremely hot and humid, I did not want to be sweatin’ in that.

Then we go into X-men Universe,  and Psylocke came to mind, but oh, she is too sexy for me.  I don’t think I can pull that purple spandex bathing suit.  Heard Olivia Munn “broke a crotch” trying on her costume! I am confident, but not that confident.

Then I come across X23.  Laura Kinney.

X-23 IS THE FEMALE CLONE OF WOLVERINE, CREATED TO BE THE PERFECT KILLING MACHINE.

I fell in love.Laura_Kinney_(Earth-TRN177)I also like the thought that I just might be able to pull this off.  Long black hair? Check.  Leather leggings and boots?  Check.  Claws?  Would to have them.  CHECK!

Best yet, her costume is easy!  Just have to pick up a pair of green contact lenses.

I will let you know how this goes in two weeks.  Will post lots of pictures, I promise!!!!

I Said Yes…

Two weeks ago, on Juy 23rd, Brons asked me the most important question I have been asked in my whole life.

My answer was YES.  Absolutely, undoubtedly yes.  There was no reason not to.

He is my everything, and being together for over nine years prove just that.

So yes, we are getting married.  Yes, we are going to start a family.  And yes, we are looking at growing old and wrinkly together…..

In exactly ONE YEAR, we will be saying our vows.  Here’s a toast to August 7th, 2016, the beginning of our forever….

This photo was taken at this year’s Hawaii Bridal Expo at the Blaisdell Center the night after we got engaged.

Bronson,

Here’s to eternity of hugs and kisses, random inside jokes, unforgettable moments with amazing friends, lazy Fridays and date nights. You are my dashing prince who swept me off my feet and just like Superman took me up, up and away in this crazy beautiful world. I love you today, tomorrow and forevermore.

The Amazing Hawaii Comic Con

Currently not-so-amazing!  Ugh… my face right now:::

Comic Con is FINALLY coming to Hawaii, and the much anticipated ticket sale date was today, Friday, May 15th.  It was announced on their website, and advertised on their Twitter and Facebook that the tickets were going to be live, ON SALE at 10:00am local time, Hawaii Time.

So we log-in at 9:32am on EventBrite to confirm the VIP ticket prices, and oh my goodness, we find that the VIP Packages are all SOLD OUT!!!!!

SERIOUSLY?   Apparently they started selling the tickets about 9am, an hour earlier than we expected.  So of course Hawaii people log-in a little before 10am to find out the the same thing.  VIP TICKETS SOLD OUT.

Super disappointing, but we bought the General Admission tickets for four.

I check back on their FB Page and see all the comments about this inconvenience and Comic Con makes an announcement:

Amazing Hawaii Comic Con Ticket Update

Due to overwhelming demand, Initial allotments of the Original VIP Tickets and the Turtles VIP Packages have Sold Out.

While standard one day General Admission tickets and full 3 day event tickets are still available, we will be adding new specialty packages to meet the demand, while still keeping the integrity of the exclusive packages.

New Premium Ticket Packages will go on sale TODAY at 12noon LOCAL HAWAII TIME.

We appreciate your enthusiasm and strong response to the first ever AMAZING HAWAII COMIC CON, coming to Honolulu in 2015

Again, SERIOUSLY????  Tickets are non-refundable, all sales are final.  So they expect us to buy another round of tickets after already purchasing the general tickets!  How organized and customer service-oriented they must be!

They should give us an option to upgrade our general tickets to VIP tickets, I think that’s the fair way to accommodate this inconvenience.

What do you think, Diana of Themyscira?

*Hope they solve this!!!!

The Pizza Corner

Love pizza? Love poke?  I do.

Then how about a poke pizza??!!! A wha-at?!!!

Just what is a POKE PIZZA, Miss Honey? A poke pizza (pronounced POH-keh, not POH-kay, or POH-ki, and definitely not poke) is an exotic fusion of Hawaii’s favorite pupu (appetizer) and yes, pizza.

ThePizzaCorner_PokePizza

I fell in love at first sight– It was also, by far, the most delicious thing I have ever tasted since Roy’s Melting Souffle.  The blend of unique flavors just fit perfectly together.  The fresh ahi, tomatoes, furukake seasoning, the tasty “no-grease-no-oil” dough, and I absolutely love the fact that it has no cheese.  (Cheese is my least favorite part of pizza!)

Just where in the world did we come across this piece of heaven?  The Pizza Corner.

Located in beautiful Ko’Olina, facing Aulani Resorts, this local eatery is not one to miss!  In April 2014, they won the International Pizza Competition as the Poke Pizza offered something unique and original.  The pizzeria mainly caters to the tourists of the resort offering New York Style traditional flavors such as cheese, meat and veggie, and their renowned garlic-knots, however they have captured the attention of the locals with their poke and kailua pork pizzas.

They also have cannoli.  Yes, I fell in love again.

ThePizzaCorner_Cannoli

Just when I thought I could not fall in love deeper, their amazing owner Frank Mento made a stop on our table, genuinely thanked us for dropping by and chatted a bit about pizza, Italian family life, Hawaii, and beer. He gave us their one-of-a-kind Cinnayum to-go, on the house!!!

ThePizzaCorner_Cinnayum

As expected, this place is a must-visit!!! and a must-eat-at!!! and a must-eat-poke-pizza-at!!!

Visit their website, www.pizzacornerhawaii.com for their full menu.  If you are staying at any of the Ko’Olina Resorts, they will deliver it to ya, and if you plan on eating in, don’t forget to BYOB!!!

I am not kidding, I am off to pick up another poke pizza. Aloha!!!

Happy National Dessert Day! –Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle Recipe!!! ;)

Happy Monday everyone!

Today, October 14, is National Dessert Day, which means if you haven’t done so, CELEBRATE the day by treating yourself to all things SWEET!!!!!  Cookies, cake, cupcakes, candies, ice cream-  anything to your heart’s desire darlings!

My absolute favorite dessert, which is by far the BEST in the world, a heavenly creation from Roy’s Restaurants… Classic Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé! I have compared it to every other similar dessert that I can find in other restaurants, and absolutely nothing can beat this delicious, decadent piece of sin… 🙂

RoysSouffleA flourless chocolate cake with a hot, molten center, served with raspberry coulis and vanilla ice cream.

OMG yummy.

Officially referenced from Roy’s Restaurant Recipes page, you can attempt to make your very own Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé:

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
4 eggs plus 4 egg yolks
12 tbsp. butter
8 oz. semisweet dark chocolate (make sure to use a good quality)

PREPARATION:

In a mixing bowl, combine sugar and cornstarch. In a separate bowl, mix eggs and yolks together. In a saucepan, bring butter to a simmer, then add the chocolate. Mix until the chocolate is smooth and begins to simmer along the edges. Combine this chocolate mixture with the sugar and cornstarch and mix thoroughly. Add eggs and mix at low speed until sugar is dissolved and mixture is smooth. Refrigerate overnight in a bowl.

Preheat oven to 375º. Line 4 metal soufflé rings with parchment paper and coat with non-stick spray. On a baking sheet, place each ring on a square of parchment paper. Fill 2/3 of each ring with the filling. Bake for 28-30 minutes. Remove the baking sheet. While holding each mold with tongs, slide a metal spatula underneath and transfer to a plate. Gently lift the mold off, remove the paper and serve with ice cream.

Of course, if you are not the in the mood to bake, or are just simply craving it at the moment, you can visit any of Roy’s Oahu locations below:

Chopstick, Wine…. & Paris!!!!

Tonight, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend one of the most amazing events I have ever experienced, thanks to my sister, Natalie….

The Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce produced their 12th annual “Chopsticks and Wine” event at the Hawaii Convention Center entitled “Ooh La La…” a petite Paris, featuring Hawaii culinary delights and unlimited wine 😉

More photos later, but here is an idea of my outfit for the evening.  Stripes & red- very Parisienne!

The Fierce Factor….Leopard Print Fashion

For those who know me, you know that I am very much in love with leopard print.  So I am thrilled to be writing a post about this trend that seems to be revived almost every season.  Yes, borrowing from the big cat is the trend again  this season!  Of course, my darlings, I am referring to Autumn/Winter 2013, as Hawaii is still in between summer and fall (even though the rest of the fashion world has already moved on to spring of next year) 😉

Anyway, the leopard print is revived, prominent in designer’s collections such as Giambattista Valli, Roland Mourett, DKNY, Burberry and Diane Von Furstenberg.

Leopard Print Fashion 2013 2

The print has been adjusted in different patterns, sizes and colors to be larger, smaller, more whimsical and more dramatic.

Ironically, the leopard print also almost becomes neutral, that you can pair it with everything.  If used sensibly, the print also makes a striking accent to any ensemble.  Next to black and white, leopard print ranks third in my wardrobe essentials.  Below are my current fashion cravings, wish I could afford them! 😉

I also wish Hawaii allowed Bengal cats, because I would definitely have one right now!
