eternal sunshine

I was browsing through my online album and I came across one of my favorite photos. Taken five years ago by a talented aspiring photographer at the time, Keoni Kitagawa, this photo captured a candid, yet blissful moment.

It was nearing a day’s end in beautiful Hawaii nei, with the sun setting behind me. The weather was pleasant as I had remembered it- warm, yet breezy; not too hot, not too windy.

If I were to choose a photo that I could hold in my heart forever- to move me, to encourage me, to teach me… I would choose this photo.

Because this photo shows me an eternal sunshine.

The sun shining- whether it be rising, or setting, symbolizes hope to all. Sometimes we feel that the world is dark, and we may be at the bottom at times. But the sun is always there, and we will get back up, one way or another.

Figuratively speaking, no matter how terrible or rainy the day goes, you just have to breathe…because tomorrow the sun will rise. If the rain keeps coming, you just have to remember that it takes rain AND sunshine to make a rainbow 😉

“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.”
Anthony J. D’Angelo

A daily dose of sunshine is good for you- it’s brightening and exhilarating. Drink it up, my darlings. Don’t live in the shadows.

Honey

iThink, iPonder, iLive

Most inspirational quotes from Steve Jobs. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow […]

Don’t Worry, Be Pretty ;)

Hel-loha! I hope you are feeling pretty today, because you are 😉 Don’t let all of the stresses of life get you down. You’ll look ugly. Really, I am not kidding. Studies show that a negative mood is reflected in your physical appearance. It’s really not all in your head: Science proves that if you’re […]

Women + Stilettos

A saying goes, “Strong women wear their pain like stilettos. No matter how much it hurts, all you see is the beauty of it.”

Shoes are one of those things that never disappoint a woman.  Any woman can put on a pair of stilettos and amazingly we get the same results.  We feel sexier and more attractive, confident, glamorous and powerful.  We look taller, and slimmer.  We find our inner goddess, and we make men drool.

Beautiful? Yes.
Therapeutic? Yes.
Healthy? Hardly.

Besides the risks of looking weird while walking in uncomfortably mile-high shoes and losing balance, there are drastic damages that high heels can cause to our bone structure. Heels can lead to angle injuries, knees, and spine damages. It can also cause back pain since the pressure of wearing heels fall on our lower back.

Are the disadvantages of wearing high heels worth it? Absolutely!

Because I always believed that a great pair of shoes will take you to wonderful places.

It’s Good To Be The Boss ;)

I recently came across Marie Claire @ Work, a supplement to the celebrated fashion magazine, and read an interesting editorial by Leslie Bennetts on three highly successful women and their thoughts on the highs, lows and surprises of being on the top of their kick-butt careers.

Very inspiring piece.

Here are some of their TIPS FOR SUCCESS.

NATALIE MASSENETFounder and Executive Chairman Net-a-Porter

  1.  KNOW YOUR FIELD:

“The important thing is knowing what you’re going to do and be an expert in what you want to do.  It can be something very simple, like being an artist doing screen prints on T-Shirts.  But don’t pick an industry you have nothing to do with, and make sure you have a basic skill set or knowledge.”

  1. DEVELOP A VIABLE BUSINESS MODEL:

Start small, do everything beautifully, have the right people around you, and make sure what you do generates money, because you can’t sustain a business that doesn’t make money.  It sounds simple, but a lot of people don’t have any idea of how they are going to make the money.”

  1. GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

“Never forget that you only have one opportunity to make a first impression- with investors, with customers, with PR and with marketing.”

  1. PLAN FOR THE LONG TERM

“When I started, my entire salary went on paying the nanny.  But I knew my salary would increase.  You are building something, and your business gets bigger.  I can invest in today and get the return tomorrow.”

NANCY DUBUCPresident and General Manager, Lifetime and History Networks

  1. TO ADVANCE YOUR CAREER

“You have to find somebody who believes in you.  I’m a big believer in picking your boss, not the job.  Great people create great jobs.”

  1. WHEN YOUR PROGRESS HITS A PLATEAU

“Take those moments of opportunity and use them for self-development.  Find the things you know you need to improve and make this time the boot camp for learning it.”

  1. NO MATTER WHAT PROBLEMS YOU CONFRONT

“You have to see them as learning opportunities and management challenges, and handle them with a sense of calm and control and responsibility to those around you.  You have to look at every issue in terms of what it’s doing for the department or the company.”

CAROLYN EVERSONVP, Global Marketing Solutions, Facebook

  1. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES

“I never planned to be in the marketing and media business, and Facebook didn’t even exist back then.  You just can’t plan everything.”

  1. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

“And have confidence in what you can do.  Most successful people have setbacks, and if you recognize that, it won’t be such a shock when it happens.  When I had a setback, it made me stronger.”

  1. BE CAREFUL HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE

“Your reputation is the most important thing you have, and it’s a small world.  If you burn a bridge, it can come back to haunt you.”

  1. MARRY SOMEONE WHO IS INCREDIBLY KIND AND HELPFUL

“Somebody who wants his tombstone to say he was the best father as opposed to what he did in his career.  My husband is an unbelievable partner, and I could not do without him.”

All thanks to their hard work, perseverance, and belief in their selves that they can and will be successful, these women now lead dazzling lives that is sometimes unbelievable even to them.  Vacations in Greece and the Carribean, multi-million dollar salary, a wardrobe consisting of only high-end designers are just some of the perks of being on top of their careers.   Carolyn admits, “There are moments when I want to pinch myself and say, ‘Am I really here?  How in the world did this happen?”

They worked hard, and now they are playing even harder.

Fabulous job, ladies and more power to ya.

The mission of a quarter-century-old fashionista living on a rock in the middle of the pacific begins here. When I was little I always told myself that by the time I was 25 years old, I would be exactly where I wanted to be in life. This means knowing WHAT i wanted in my life, […]
