Since I was a child I have always been fascinated with the Victorian era- lace, stationary, books, corsets, skirts, dresses, anything with bustles and ruffles, and of course, the beautiful porcelain dolls.
We’ve always seen Victorian inspired fashion on the catwalk, although besides making extravagant appearances, being worn by A-list celebs on the red carpet during award ceremonies, the trend haven’t really affected the mass population…..yet.
Victor & Rolf’s Pre-Fall 2012 Collection takes inspiration from the Victorian age, keeping the era’s elegance and sophistication but with a darker, more mysterious feel. The line, inspired by Victorian dolls is still relevant to the modern woman. Maintaining a warm color palette, the silhouettes are either flowy or structured, in luxurious fabrics such as tulle, lace, silk satin and velvet. Victorian elements like ruffles, fringes, bows and high necklines are prominent in the collection.
